The Steamrunner class was approved in 2340 with the lead vessel entering sevice in 2343. All told, the Steamrunner class serves her designed role well, though the lack of scientific facilities has hurt the vessel during peacetime delpoyments.
Technical Design Edit
The size and performance characteristics of the warp and impulse drives were a perfect match for the Steamrunner class, allowing a standard cruising speed of Warp 7.0 and a top speed in excess of Warp 9.0.
The Steamrunner was designed to hold its own in a combat situation. As such the ship mounts six Type IX phaser rings and two photon torpedo launchers. The shield system from the Ambassador class was fitted, giving the ship excellent defensive shielding.
Computer Systems Edit
The Steamrunner carries the isolinear-based M-13 as it was next to impossible to fit a larger computer in thests vessels. The M-13 has proven to be well-suited for the Steamrunner and constant firmware upgrades have continued to enhance the system.
