Features

Designed primarily as a fleet support craft the Achilles-class was put into service at the beginning of the Dominion War in order to provide some real muscle to the less combat orientated craft domination Starfleet at the time. With numerous weapon systems and a novel hull design, partially inspired by the Defiant Pathfinder research think tank, the Achilles-class proved itself a durable and effective in combat and soon was considered a priority build design for Starfleet.

Armament

As well as the standard complement of phaser arrays and torpedo launchers, which were fitted with both photon and quantum torpedoes at the outbreak of the Dominion War, the Achilles-class were upgraded to include the new pulse phaser weapon systems and the experimental micro-torpedo phalanx array.

Fitted with a battery of micro-torpedo tubes the Achilles-class are able to bombard their targets with numerous small warheads. While in and of themselves the micro-torpedoes aren't enough to break through most ship's shields the constant bombardment they can achieve when fired en mass can defeat most standard defensive systems.

Propulsion

The Achilles-class uses the standard twin nacelle design synonymous with Starfleet design in the 24th century. The main hull is teardrop shaped and presents a more shallow aspect to enemies, allowing the ship to more easily avoid enemy fire when entering battle.
